Colts Get Three Pitchers from Abilene

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts continue to build their 2013 spring training roster with the addition of three pitchers from the Abilene Prairie Dogs.

The Colts announced Wednesday they have acquired Freddy Flores, Wade Morrison and Steve Merslich from Abilene in exchange for future considerations. All three were late-season additions for the Prairie Dogs.

Flores went 1-1 with a 5.75 earned-run average in five starts. The 38-year-old righty was also Abilene's Pitching Coach upon joining the club on August 1. Flores began the year with the El Paso Diablos of the independent American Association. There, he went 3-2 with a 5.29 earned-run average in 12 games and 11 starts.

Now entering his 10th professional season, Flores is 28-19 lifetime with a 4.29 earned-run average in 82 games and 66 starts.

Morrison signed with the Prairie Dogs on August 12, and went on to post a 9.00 earned-run average in five relief appearances. The righthander began his career in 2010 in the independent American Association. Morrison, 25, split time between the Sioux City Explorers and the Grand Prairie AirHogs his rookie season.

Now entering his fourth professional season, Morrison is 0-1 with a 5.84 earned-run average in 23 games and one start. Morrison's lone start was with Grand Prairie.

Merslich began 2012 with the Alpine Cowboys of the semi-pro Pecos League. He helped lead the Cowboys to the league championship, going 3-1 with a 5.91 earned-run average in 12 games and six starts. Merslich then signed with Abilene on August 9, and pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in seven relief appearances.

The 25-year-old lefty began his professional career in 2011 with the New York Federals of the independent Can-Am League. Now entering his third pro season, Merslich has an 0-1 record with a 9.72 earned-run average in nine games and one start.
