San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- Less than a week after their season ended, the Colts are preparing for the 2013 campaign.

The Colts announced Tuesday they have acquired outfielder Joe Weik and pitcher Billy Petrick from the Abilene Prairie Dogs via the Edinburg Roadrunners in exchange for future considerations. Weik and Petrick helped lead Edinburg to the United League Championship, but their contract went back to Abilene at the end of the season.

Weik was among the best hitters in the league, batting .340 with 12 home runs and 67 RBIs in 91 regular season games between Abilene and Edinburg. He finished the season second in RBIs, third in homers and sixth in batting average.

In the playoffs, Weik hit .318 with two home runs and four RBIs in five games for the Roadrunners.

Weik, 24, is entering his third professional season. He has a .317 career average with 14 home runs and 85 RBIs in 138 games.

Petrick went 5-3 with a 4.32 earned-run average in 19 games and 13 starts with Abilene and Edinburg. The former Major Leaguer also pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Roadrunners during the postseason.

Petrick, 28, was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2002 draft. The Illinois native reached the Majors in 2007. Petrick posted a 7.45 earned-run average in eight relief appearances for the Cubs that year.

Petrick spent seven years in the Cubs organization. His first year in independent ball was 2009 with the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League.

In 11 professional seasons, Petrick has a 37-34 career record and a 4.04 earned-run average in 167 games and 87 starts.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who just concluded their 13th season. For more information, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
