San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Friday they have acquired pitchers Kevin Gelinas and Derrick Dingeman from the Abilene Prairie Dogs in exchange for future considerations.
Gelinas went 4-2 with a 3.13 earned-run average in 22 relief appearances for Abilene. The lefty's velocity caught the eye of Major League scouts, and his contract was purchased by the New York Yankees on August 7. However, a minor injury prevented Gelinas from ever playing in the Yankees farm system and he was subsequently returned to Abilene.
Gelinas, 23, was drafted by the New York Mets in 2010, but did not begin his career until this past season with the Prairie Dogs.
Dingeman began the year with the Alpine Cowboys of the semi-pro Pecos League, and was then acquired by Abilene on July 23. The 22-year-old righthander went 1-2 with a 6.98 earned-run average in 21 games and one start in Alpine. He then went 0-2 with a 4.56 earned-run average in 14 relief appearances for the Prairie Dogs.
Gelinas and Dingeman are both entering their second professional season. They are both also part of group of 20 pitchers on the Colts' 2012 spring training roster.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who just concluded their 13th season. For more information, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
