Saint Louis FC News Release

Fenton, Mo- In a match that was as hot as the temperature outside, Saint Louis FC ended the night with three points, after defeating Western Conference rival, Colorado Springs. Marshall Wireless Stadium saw 4,771 fans despite battling high temperatures. This marks the first game of the short home stand over the next few weeks.

It was a good start for Saint Louis as new faces Mitch Lurie and Tyler David saw the starting XI. Chad Bond held down the midfield early as Colorado Springs had a few early chances that were turned aside. Mark Pais stood tall between the sticks with the help of the back line anchored by AJ Cochran.

Coach Dale Schilly explained, "The boys came out and took responsibility for what happened to us last weekend where we didn't perform to the level that we expect. They took training very seriously this week, we stayed in the heat to prepare for that."

James Musa opened the scoring for the home side as he scored the first Tyler David hundred and thirty minutes on an assist from Tyler David. It was a perfect time for Musa to notch his third goal of the season as Saint Louis capitalized on their first major scoring chance.

"The biggest thing for us moving forward is consistency. Putting out consistent performances and coming out strong and not conceding early goals," Musa explained.

The Saint Louis FC record goal scorer kept his true form as El Salvadorian Forward Irvin Herrera found the back of the net for the 10th time this season, as Switchbacks FC goalkeeper, William Thompson came off his line. Herrera effortlessly chipped it over tMark Paisother tally for Saint Louis.

Mark Pais recorded his third win of the season despite the heat and previous losing streak. "It was a great start to the game tonight. We've had good starts the last couple games but conceded some unlucky goals. Tonight we were able to start strong, find the back of the net, and captured the momentum early. That really pushed us through in the second half. Great three points tonight."

Colorado Springs pushed back as Marty Maybin scored a strike from inside the 18-yard box to bring the Switchbacks within one. However, that would be the lone goal for the visitors as the final score ended in favor of Saint Louis, 2-1.

Saint Louis FC's next two games are at home. Oklahoma City Energy makes their first trip to the WWT Soccer Park on July 30th. The team will need to regroup as they will host cross-state rival, Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday, August 3rd for Saint Louis FC "Give Back Night" Call 636-680-0997 or go to SaintLouisFC.com for more information.
