October 4, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids Academy goalkeeper Leonardo Medina has been called up to the Mexico Under-16 Men's Youth National Team for their training camp in Mexico City, Mexico, from October 1 to 6.
"Leo is very committed to his work on the training field. This hard work has helped him develop an excellent understanding of what is being asked from him in the goalkeeping position," said Chris Sharpe, Academy Goalkeeping Director. "Leo is very mature for his age. He has a very calm demeanor on the field, he is an excellent shot stopper and is very assured with the ball at his feet. Leo is fully deserving of this opportunity, as he has started the 2022-23 season in great form."
Medina,15, originally joined the Colorado Rapids Academy as a U-12 player from the Community Athletic Soccer Academy in 2018. During the 2021-22 season, Medina appeared in 11 matches for the Rapids U-15 Academy team, amassing a total of 919 minutes on the pitch. The young goalkeeper was also a part of the U-15 squad that qualified for the MLS NEXT playoffs in the 2021-22 season. This year, Medina has played for both the U-15 and U-17 Rapids Academy squads and has kicked off the 2022-23 season with four starts, logging 320 minutes in that span.
