(Fort Collins, CO) - The Colorado Ice pulls off a nail biter tonight in Amarillo, Texas. The Ice win 27-24 after a touchdown from David Knighton (5) to Ken Witter (18) and the Ice defense holding off the Venom for 15 seconds.
The game was back and forth with both teams only scoring one field goal each in the first half. Then the Ice and Venom had matching touchdowns in the third quarter taking the game to 10-10. Not until the fourth quarter did both teams' offenses start to make plays, with the lead changing sides throughout the quarter.
The Ice and Venom defenses played a physical game up front with the Ice getting two sacks on the night. Idly Etienne (43) had two sacks taking the offense back a total of 12 yards. Etienne and Corey Sample (9) teamed up to the lead the defense with tackles at eight each.
Rocky Stevens (26) came through for the Ice tonight hitting two field goals, one from 36 yards and the other from 19 yards out. Also, Stevens had three points after touchdowns which kept the Ice in the game.
The Ice offense was lead once again by Knighton moving the ball around to his receivers and with the assist of running back Maurice Greer (34). Greer in his first IFL game had 7 carries for 47 yards and 1 reception for 6 yards. Ken Witter once again stepped up making 2 touchdowns, the last being the game winner with 15.6 seconds left in the game. Duane Brooks (2) had 5 receptions for 61 yards and 1 touchdown on a 36 yard pass from Knighton.
The Colorado Ice return to Majestic Field at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, CO next Sunday, April 17th at 3pm to face the Wyoming Cavalry who are on a winning streak of their own. The Cavalry have not lost a game since coming to Majestic Field on March 6th and look to upset the 6-0 Colorado Ice.
