Colorado Crush News Release
Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice are proud to announce the signings of Collin Cordell, Cedric Baker Boney, Jason Barnes, Natiel Curry, Cody Endres, Fred Jones, Lamar "Marty" Markett, Dameon Terry and A.J. Wallace.
Cordell is a 6'5", 340 lb. offensive lineman from Fort Valley State University, who returns to the Colorado Ice after spending a year away from Colorado while pursuing opportunities in the Arena Football League. Cordell was one of the four offensive linemen from the Ice who earned contracts with the AFL after a great 2011 IFL season; with Cordell signing with the Spokane Shock. Following a strong rookie season in the IFL in 2011, Cordell was named Second Team All-IFL Offensive Center; an award fitting of his play on the field. Cordell was not only a player that deserved recognition for his individual accomplishments but was also a player that played a major role in the turnaround for the Colorado Ice; leading the team to the most wins in team history (11) and also the longest winning streak to start a season in team history (7). Prior to playing with the Ice, Cordell played his collegiate football at Fort Valley State; starting in 33 games during his career. Following his senior season, Cordell played in the HBCU All Star Game, which consists of the nation's best players from the Historically Black Colleges & Universities.
Baker Boney is a 5'9", 185 lb. running back from Appalachian State University, who served as a key component in the dominant run games that Appalachian State has had over the past few season. Baker Boney spent all four of his collegiate seasons at Appalachian State, playing in 43 games and starting in 5. In his four seasons, Baker Boney accumulated 937 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 16 receptions, and 118 receiving yards. Consistency was a must for Baker Boney throughout his career at Appalachian State, as he worked his way from being a walk-on to being a scholarship player by the end of his career. Baker Boney's persistence and consistency resulted in him averaging 5.4 yards per carry on the field and led to him being viewed by his teammates and coaches as one of the hardest workers off of the field.
Barnes is a 6'4", 215 lb. wide receiver from The University of South Carolina, who was rated as the 114 th best wide receiver prospect in the 2012 draft class. Barnes spent his entire collegiate career at South Carolina, playing in 51 games. In those 51 games, Barnes accumulated 64 receptions for 778 yards and 2 touchdowns. Barnes' best game in college came against Ole Miss in a game which Barnes caught seven passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Barnes was not only a standout on the field but also excelled in the classroom as he was named a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. After a very productive college career, Barnes signed as a Preferred Free Agent with the San Diego Chargers of the NFL. Barnes spent the entire preseason competing for a spot on the Chargers roster alongside former Colorado Ice offensive lineman, Mario Henderson.
Curry is a 6'2", 315 lb. center from Bethune-Cookman University, who was rated as the 30 th best center prospect in the 2012 draft class. Curry spent all four collegiate seasons at B-CU, playing in 22 games and starting in 19. Curry was a large part of some of the best offenses in the FCS over his final two seasons, helping pave the way for 4,788 total yards of offense in his senior season alone. Being the anchor of such a dominant offense helped Curry gain recognition across the country for his efforts; including being named All-MEAC First Team, HBCU First Team All-American, Associated Press Third Team All-American, Sports Network First Team All-American, HBCU All Star, Preseason Sports Network Top 10 FCS Offensive Lineman, and Preseason FCS All-American.
Endres is a 6'4", 235 lb. quarterback from The University of Connecticut and Slippery Rock University, who was rated as the 50 th best quarterback prospect in the 2012 draft class. Endres spent his first three seasons at UConn, competing in 15 games and starting in 10. In his three seasons at UConn, Endres completed 182 of his 313 passes for 2,236 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns. Endres spent most of his three seasons at UConn competing for the starting spot, but prior to his senior season transferred to Slippery Rock to take over their starting quarterback role. In his one season at Slippery Rock, Endres started in 11 games, completing 220 of his 374 passes for 2,551 passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns; while also having one rushing touchdown. Endres made an immediate impact at Slippery Rock, finishing with the most completions (220) and passing yards (2,551) in a single season and finishing second for touchdown passes (21) from a quarterback in one season at Slippery Rock. Winning games came naturally to Endres, as during his collegiate career his team never finished with less than eight wins, and in his only season as the primary starter, his team won 73% of their games.
Jones is a 6'5", 270 lb. defensive end from Indiana University, who was rated as the 89 th best defensive end prospect in the 2012 draft class. Jones spent all four of his collegiate seasons at Indiana, playing in 37 games during his career. In those 37 games, Jones accumulated 35 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble. With his size, strength, and speed, Jones was able to play a versatile role across the defensive line for Indiana, playing both defensive end and defensive tackled. That versatility will come in handy when competing with the Ice, as many of the things he did while at Indiana, will allow him to be successful in the IFL.
Markett is a 5'9", 175 lb. defensive back from The University of South Carolina, who was rated as the 103 rd best corner prospect in the 2012 draft class. Markett spent his entire college career at South Carolina, but took an unconventional route to becoming a starting defensive back for the Gamecocks. Markett originally enrolled at South Carolina on a track scholarship; earning All-American honors as a freshman. Markett then walked on to the football team as a sophomore; not earning any playing time until his junior season. Over his final two seasons however, Markett played plenty for one of the best defenses in the nation; recording 38 tackles and 2 pass break-ups in 23 games. Markett's amazing story didn't stop there as his speed, intelligence, and hard work earned him a contract with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL as a Preferred Free Agent.
Terry is a 6'6", 345 lb. offensive lineman from Benedict College, who played a pivotal role in his three seasons there; starting in 16 games and playing both the tackle and guard positions. Following his collegiate career, Terry has spent time with various professional indoor teams and most recently played outdoor football with the Chambersburg Cardinals of the GDFL. During his time with Chambersburg, Terry started in all 26 games he played and was a crucial part of the dominant offensive line that led the Cardinals to the 2011 GDFL National Championship. Terry's path to the IFL and to the Colorado Ice is not an unfamiliar one though, as current Colorado Ice offensive lineman Mike Trice was also a member of the Chambersburg Cardinals team that won the 2011 GDFL Championship.
Wallace is a 6'1", 200 lb. defensive back from Penn State University, who was rated as the 64 th best cornerback prospect in the 2010 draft class. Wallace played all four of his collegiate seasons at Penn State; starting off as a dynamic offensive and special teams player and ending as one of the top corners and kick returners around. During his career at Penn State, Wallace played in 51 games, starting in each of his four seasons. In those 51 games, Wallace accumulated 99 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 4 interceptions, 9 pass break-ups, 1 fumble recovery, 153 rushing yards with 1 rushing touchdown, and 1,128 kick return yards with 1 kick return touchdown. Wallace's talent and versatility was not only recognized by Penn State, as after his senior season, Wallace earned a Preferred Free Agent contract with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. Wallace most recently played with the Georgia Force of the AFL and the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. Wallace will be the second Nittany Lion to join the Ice this off-season, as former teammate Alim "Abe" Koroma signed earlier this month.
