Colorado Ice Drop to #2 in Conference Rankings

Fort Collins, CO - The Ice lose to the Nebraska Danger 69 - 66 in a last second field goal by Joe Houston (25). This loss puts the Danger at 6-2 and the Ice at 5 -3 in the Intense Conference. The Ice started the game with a Rouge for one point, only to have the defense give up a touchdown to the Danger three plays later. The first quarter was all Danger, when they scored 16 points. Going into the second quarter the Ice started to come alive but not enough to take over the Danger going into the locker room at half-time. Danger led at half-time 39 -22.

The Ice came out from half-time getting the ball in great field position for their first touchdown of the third quarter. Scoring 19 points in the third quarter the Ice outscored the Danger by 6 points starting the fourth quarter Ice 41 Danger 52.

Trailing going into the fourth quarter the Ice scored the first touchdown and followed it with a two point conversion taking the Ice within three points of the Danger. The rest of the fourth quarter was a back and forth game with the Ice trailing until a last second touchdown and PAT tied the game at 66 - 66 with 23 seconds on the clock. This left enough time on the clock for the Danger to run three plays and score the winning field goal.

Justin Helwege (88) had a four touchdown night for the Ice, hooking up with Willie Copeland (13) with the longest one being for 30 yards. Copeland had two rushing touchdowns, with another passing to Kyle Kaiser (3). Matt Roark (4) pulled in a touchdown late in the fourth quarter getting him 8 catches on the night and 104 yards receiving.

The Ice rookie kicker Mason Puckett (17) had six PAT's and one field goal for 29 yards, a great performance for the University of Northern Colorado alumni on one day notice. The Ice defense was led by Gabe Knapton (33) with seven tackles and 10 assists.

Willie Copeland (15) is the Runza player of the game for his constant resolve in leading the Ice to tie up the game, coming back from a 17 point deficit. Copeland would end the night going 21 of 34 passing and totaling 274 yards passing and two rushing touchdowns.

The Ice will be on the road next Friday, May 3rd in Casper, Wyoming to face the Cavalry. Game time is 7:00 PM.
