Colorado Chill Welcomes Newest Team To League

The National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) announced today that the league will expand to San Jose, CA, heading into its historic 5th season this coming January 2005. The team will be known as the NWBL's SAN JOSE SPIDERS and will be owned and operated by Mr. Ronald Grant, a resident and real estate developer from Oakland, CA.

The SPIDERS will tip off in January 2005 and play against the other current NWBL pro teams in the league - COLOARDO CHILL; CHICAGO BLAZE; HOUSTON STEALTH; DALLAS FURY; BIRMINGHAM POWER and LUBBOCK HAWKS.

The NWBL is a professional women's basketball league that plays its season in the spring from January to April each year, and features some of America's best professional women basketball players. This past spring the NWBL featured such notable WNBA superstars as - Sheryl Swoopes, Ruth Riley, Becky Hammond; Tamika Catchings, Anna DeForge, Tina Thompson and many other star players, who play in the America's other professional league the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), which plays in the summer each year.

The SPIDERS have hired as their first General Manager - Rory Robertson - a resident of Napa, CA and former Berkeley basketball player, who has a graduate degree in Sports and Fitness Management from the University of San Francisco. (See SPIDERS web page/bio)

The NWBL is thrilled to bring to San Jose's thousands of pro women basketball fans, the pro stars of the NWBL this January 2005." Stated Patrick Alexander, President/Co-Founder.

Negotiations are underway with local arena venues and the SPIDERS anticipate announcing a SPIDER "WebHome Court" in the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, the SPIDERS will immediately start discussions with star pro players from around the country, in preparation for the NWBL draft on December 18th, 2004. The SPIDERS will also hold local tryouts for regional players on November 20th, here in San Jose. Interviews for a SPIDER Head Coach are underway and should be announced as well in the weeks to come.
