EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 11, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials signed running back Jason Davis and defensive tackle Greg Peterson to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms of the deals are not disclosed.
The Colonials also transferred offensive lineman Brian Simmons from the Reserve/Unsigned list to the Professional/Exempt list. Hartford retains his UFL rights and those of any player who signs a contract with another professional football team.
Jason Davis (5-10, 242) - UFL: Signed as a free agent with Colonials on Oct. 18, 2010. Started the final four games of the season at fullback. NFL: Has been with the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears and New York Jets. Originally signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Spent the 2006 season on IR (knee) and 2007 season on Philadelphia's practice squad. Released by Eagles on Aug. 30, 2008. Made his NFL debut with Oakland on Nov. 2, 2008. Released on Nov. 19 and signed with Chicago. Appeared in five games (three starts) with the Bears in 2008. Spent 2009 season on the Jets practice squad and signed a future-reserve contract with the team on Jan. 28, 2010. His release on Sept. 3 was featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks." NCAA: Played at Illinois in 2002-05, lettering all four years.
Greg Peterson (6-5, 315) - UFL: Placed on Hartford's Reserve/Unsigned list on April 26, 2011. NFL: Drafted in fifth round by Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2007. Made NFL debut Sept. 9, 2007, at Seattle. Had career-high six tackles vs. St. Louis on Sept. 23. Registered 15 tackles, including 1 1/2 sacks, in 12 games in 2007-08 with Tampa Bay. Played two games with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009 and spent 2010 preseason with Washington Redskins. NCAA: Division II All-American as a senior at North Carolina Central in 2006. Played at North Carolina Central in 2005-06 after transferring from Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss.
