HITTING THE ROAD

The Hartford Colonials begin a stretch of three consecutive road games, starting with the first of two in a row out west. Rather than fly back to Hartford, the Colonials will go straight from Las Vegas to Sacramento before returning home. Saturday's game against in Las Vegas will be televised on the VERSUS network. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1410/WPOP-AM with Jason Page on play-by-play and Rob Lunn providing analysis.

A MUCH-NEEDED WIN

The Colonials have lost three in a row, falling to 1-3 and in danger of falling out of contention. The three straight loses represent the longest such streak by a UFL team this season. In all three loses, Hartford led at halftime but failed to maintain the advantage over the final 30 minutes. Also, the Colonials were either leading or had possession with a chance to take the lead in the closing minutes.

LOOKING BACK

The Colonials are coming off a 19-14 loss to Omaha. For the second straight game, Hartford committed four turnovers. The final one was a fumble that resulted from high snap over quarterback Josh McCown's head in the shotgun formation with 2:27 remaining. The Nighthawks recovered at their 47-yard line and picked up two first downs, running out the clock to seal their second victory over the Colonials this season.

COLONIALS HEAD COACH CHRIS PALMER

Hartford Colonials Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer is in his 38th overall season as a football coach and 23rd year in the professional ranks. The UFL is the fourth different professional football league Palmer has been a coach. The other three: NFL (1990-2000, 2002-09), the defunct United State Football League (1984-85) and the Canadian Football League (1983). Palmer was the Quarterbacks Coach for the New York Giants the last three seasons (2007-09) and served in that role for one year (2006) with the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to that he was the Houston Texans Offensive Coordinator (2002-05), Cleveland Browns Head Coach (1999-2000), Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Coordinator ('97-98), New England Patriots Wide Receivers and Quarterbacks Coach (1993-96), and Houston Oilers Receivers Coach (1990-92).

"QUOTABLE..."

Colonials Head Coach Chris Palmer on the team bouncing back: "I think the team knows what the problem is. We were averaging seven penalties a game, and we had five in the last game, so that's an improvement. Now we just got to stop turning the ball over."

Colonials safety Ryan Glasper on the urgency to win:

"It's definitely a must win for us. Our backs are against the wall. But sometime I think when your back is against the wall, that's when you find a way to claw yourself out because you're in desperate need of a win. We have the talent, we've had the opportunities. We just got to be a little more consistent. I'm sure we're going to rally around each other and we're going to come out and put up a good fight."

Colonials tight end Tyson DeVree on what it will take to win:

"We've just got to keep doing what we do. We're not getting beat by 40. We just to execute a little bit better and get the job done."

Colonials tackle Pete Clifford on what the offensive line needs to do:

"We just need to keep coming off the ball as hard as possible like we've been doing. Just show a sense of urgency a little bit more. We need to keep the quarterback clean, let him set up and get some throws in there so we can give ourselves the best chance to win this game."

ROSTER MOVES

Unfortunately it has been a busy week on the medical front for the Colonials. The team placed five players on the season-ending Injured Reserve list: LB Tank Daniels, DT Adrian Grady, RB Kevin Jones, OL Rueben Riley and FB Asaph Schwapp. The team also released WR Taurus Johnson.

MEET THE REPLACEMENTS

The Colonials signed the following players this week:

FB Jason Davis (5-10, 242): Among the final cuts in Jets training camp. He played in his first NFL game with Raiders on Nov. 2, 2008. After being released by Oakland, Davis signed with the Bears and played five games, including three starts. He signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2006.

LB Harry Coleman (6-2, 206): Recently released from the Saints practice squad. The former standout at LSU was a two-year starter with the Tigers and played on the 2007 national championship team. He switched from strong safety to linebacker for his senior year in college and was named Tigers MVP in 2009, when he registered a career-high 82 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles in 13 games.

G Ryan Cave (6-4, 340): Rejoins the Colonials after participating with the team during training camp. He played at Hampton University.

DT Marlon Favorite (6-1, 317): Former LSU player was released by the Colts last month. He was a member of the Saints practice squad last season, and also had brief stints with the Panthers, Rams, Chiefs, Seahawks and Bills.

A TALE OF TWO HALVES

For whatever reason, the Colonials have performed better in the first half than the second half.
