Colonials Player Signs with Seahawks

Defensive end Maurice Fountain, who played for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League this year, was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.
Fountain is the 13th player from the Colonials to sign with an NFL team, the most of any UFL team. He started at defensive end in all eight games with the Colonials, registering 22 total tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.
"I definitely feel the UFL helped me a great deal," Fountain said. "First and foremost, the coaching was really good. The other thing is the competition and the speed of the game. Obviously the NFL may be a tad bit faster, but a lot of the guys I played against in the UFL were NFL vets."
Last season, Fountain played for the UFL's New York Sentinels. The team moved to Hartford this year and was renamed the Colonials.
In 2008, Fountain was among the final round of cuts by the Dolphins in training camp. Previously, the former standout at Clemson played for arena football teams in Utah and Manchester (N.H.).
