EAST HARTFORD - The Hartford Colonials defeated the Sacramento Mountain Lions 27-10 before a UFL regular season record crowd of 14,384 at Rentschler Field.

The Colonials dominated on both sides of the ball, amassing 448 total yards while holding

Sacramento to 201.

Colonials quarterback Josh McCown threw three touchdown passes, hooking up with Jason Chery on a 59-yard scoring strike and an 80-yard touchdown to Lorenzo Booker. McCown completed 11 of 21 passes for 265 yards and did not throw an interception.

Andre Dixon rushed for 94 yards as the Colonials gained 180 on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense held Sacramento to 35 yards rushing and pressured Sacramento quarterback Daunte Culpepper throughout the game.

"I think what people saw was a good football team that got after you," Colonials Head Coach Chris Palmer said. "And I think the fans felt very much part of the game."

It was the first-ever win for the franchise in 2-year-old UFL. The New York Sentinels, which went 0-6 last season, moved to Hartford in February.

The Colonials built a 27-0 lead early in the third quarter when Booker caught a screen pass from McCown and raced 80 yards for a touchdown. It was the longest touchdown pass in the brief history of the UFL.

Hartford opened the scoring when McCown threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Markee White, who made a diving catch. The touchdown was set up by a 46-yard reception by Chery.

The Colonials built a 20-0 lead at halftime on the strength of Chery's 59-yard touchdown catch and two field goals by Taylor Mehlhaff. His second field goal was set up by a blocked punt by Marshall McDuffie.

"The big plays really hurt us and they came in many different ways," Sacramento coach Dennis Green said.
