The Hartford Colonials continue to show there is plenty of talent on the sidelines, as well as the field, in the United Football League.
Todd Washington, the Colonials offensive line coach in 2010, has been named assistant offensive line coach for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. The announcement was made by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
"I am pleased for Todd and his family," Colonials head coach and general manager Chris Palmer said. "Todd did a great job for the Colonials. He is an excellent person and coach. We wish him continued success."
Washington, 34, is the third assistant from Palmer's coaching staff to join the NFL ranks. Kevin O'Dea was hired as an assistant special teams coach by the Bears and Tony Sparano Jr. was named offensive quality control coach for the Dolphins. Also, former Colonials defensive coordinator Osia Lewis was hired as the defensive line coach for San Diego State University.
Prior to joining the Colonials in 2010, Washington was the offensive line coach for two years (2007-08) and offensive coordinator for one season ('09) at the University of San Diego. He was an offensive lineman in the NFL for eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1998-2002) and Houston Texans ('03'-05). He was a fourth-round draft pick by Tampa Bay in 1998 after a collegiate career at Virginia Tech.
