Carolina Cobras News Release
CHARLOTTE - The Carolina Cobras and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have entered into a community and corporate partnership for the 2004 Arena Football League season. The components of the partnership include fundraising assistance, the Adopt-A-Cobra community program, character development and donations.
The partnership, which was kicked off at a press conference at Idlewild Elementary on Friday morning, is the largest of many efforts made by the Cobras organization to display its commitment to the betterment of the youth of Charlotte and beyond.
"The magnitude of this partnership is quite impressive," Cobras general manager Darrell Harbin said. "Through our financial and volunteer support, we will be able to really make a positive impact in the lives of thousands of children."
The fundraising partnership will provide CMS the opportunity to sell 9,000 tickets to each of the Cobras' first two home games for $5.00 each with all proceeds donated to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation. The donation is one of the first major contributions to the newly-established foundation and may potentially reach $90,000.
The Cobras will also partner with 10 local elementary and middle schools for the Adopt-A-Cobra program during the 2004 season. The volunteer initiative will bring the players to the classrooms on over 50 occasions throughout the season to speak to local youth about character development, a main characteristic promoted through CMS. Players will serve the schools in a variety of ways, such as reading, athletic events, lunch programs, autograph signings, photo opportunities and school assemblies.
CMS will also receive messages from the Cobras organization relating to character development that they can deploy as desired during the 2004 season. These messages will be provided in different forms, including: audio messages, flyers and player, mascot and dance team appearances.
The Charlotte-area Borders Bookstores will also participate in the partnership, serving as a point-of-sale for all CMS tickets. The bookstore will also hold a book drive during the Cobras' home game on Saturday, February 28 in which all fans are encouraged to donate a new book in exchange for a ticket discount for the next game on Sunday, March 14. All books collected will be donated to CMS.
The Cobras kick off the 2004 season on Sunday, February 8 on the road against the Dallas Desperados. Carolina will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 21 versus the Arizona Rattlers. Season tickets are on sale now and start as low as $64 per seat. For more information, call 877-4-COBRAS or visit www.cobrasfootball.com.
