Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League has announced today the signing of three free agents, offensive/defensive lineman Eric Gohlstin, offensive/defensive lineman Joe Jackson and wide receiver/linebacker Kevin Mason. As is club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A six year veteran of the AFL, Gohlstin (6-4, 330) spent last season with the Grand Rapids Rampage under Soul head coach Michael Trigg. In 15 games last season, he recorded 11.0 tackles and two quarterback hurries. Gohlstin, a four-year letter winner at Ohio State University, spent the previous five season with the Iowa Barnstormers/New York Dragons and in 2002 had a career high 27 tackles, including 19 solos and one sack.

Jackson (6-2, 290) was a standout offensive lineman at Baylor University and signed with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe as a free agent in 2003. Jackson started every game for Baylor at center for three consecutive years and in 2000 was the only offensive lineman to start every contest.

The versatile Mason was signed to the Buffalo Destroyers practice squad last season and activated for the Destroyers April 18th game against the Los Angeles Avengers. Mason (6-4, 205) originally began his career with the Destroyers as a quarterback in 1999 but was moved to wide receiver/linebacker in 2000. In his five years with the Destroyers, Mason has 63 receptions for 944 yards and 16 TDs and has completed 183 of 342 passes for 2,045 yards and 19 TDs.

A three-year letter at Syracuse University, Mason played for the Orangemen from 1991-94 and preceded Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Mason completed 105 of 187 passes for 1627 yards and 10 TDs in his senior campaign.

The Philadelphia Soul will kick off their inaugural season against the New Orleans Voodoo this February 8th on NBC Sports. Give the gift of choice this holiday season!
