July 27, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports lost their third straight, losing to Coastal Bend 5-4 Sunday at Fair Grounds Field. The loss also drops Shreveport into third place in the Central League second half race.
Coastal Bend took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added a second run in the second inning on a home run by Jack Joffrion.
Shreveport finally broke a 21-inning scoreless streak when the Sports scored a run in the fifth inning to reduce the lead to 2-1 as Jose Rivas' double brought home Dalphie Correa.
However, Coastal Bend added two runs in the sixth on a two-run home run by Matt Mann and increased their lead to 5-1 with a run in the seventh. The Sports would battle back with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth. In the ninth, Shreveport had the tying and winning runs on base, but couldn't come up with the clutch hit in losing 5-4.
The Sports and Coastal Bend will meet again Monday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 7:05.
