July 27, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League) News Release
FORT WORTH 8, SAN ANGELO 6 @ Fort Worth, Texas. Time: 2:27 ATT: 3,752 W: Matt Harrington (4-0) L: Nathan Mitchell (5-3) S: Ray Beasley (1) HR: SA - Rich Gomez (5), Aaron Mendoza (6) FW - Carlos Adolfo (18), Jason Radwan (7) Fort Worth faced defeat at the hands of the Colts, staring a five-run deficit in the eye after six-and-a-half innings, but the Cats did not lay down their swords. Instead, they mounted a staggering, seven-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to bring them back from the brink of failure, winning 8-6. CF Carlos Adolfo set the tone in that fateful inning with a leadoff home run, erasing the goose egg that had mockingly tormented Fort Worth from its perch two spots below the "R" on the scoreboard. DH John Allen succeeded Adolfo with a double, followed by 1b Jordan Foster's double of his own, this of the run-scoring variety. 5-2, Colts. C Jason Radwan delivered an RBI single a batter later, and SS David Keesee singled to left thereafter. 3B Terence Green walked, as did RF Terrell Merriman after the bases were loaded. LF Tony Mota reached on an error by 3B JP Schmidt, also plating two to take the 6-5 lead. Adolfo capped the rally with an RBI single. Radwan's solo homer in the eighth provided insurance, which the Cats did not need thanks to Ray Beasley's scoreless inning and a third, with which he earned his first save. Matt Harrington picked up the win, allowing a run over an inning and a third. Jason Wiedmeyer struck out nine for the Colts but his effort was negated by the seventh-inning meltdown. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- EDINBURG 5, PENSACOLA 4 @ Edinburg, Texas. Time: 2:53 ATT: 2,912 W: Bryan Heaston (2-1) L: Robbie Hebert (5-2) S: Steve Wilkerson (20) HR: None 2B Anthony Angel broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh with an RBI single, giving Edinburg a 5-4 win over Pensacola. Angel finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Roadrunners, who remain four games back of Fort Worth for first place. Bryan Heaston picked up the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings for Edinburg. Steve Wilkerson locked down the ninth for his league-leading 20th save. SS Kip Harkrider doubled and tripled in five at-bats, scoring once. LF Cedrick Harris was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a stolen base.
