Coach Marquette Smith named Kreatures GM

December 23, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) - Kissimmee Kreatures News Release

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Kissimmee Kreatures Franchise of the National Indoor Football League and Owner/President Anthony Pewonski announced that Head Coach Marquette Smith will now assume the responsibilities of General Manager as well as his coaching duties.

Smith received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Communications at UCF and his Masters of Business Administration from Wisconsin-Madison.

He was a member of Bobby Bowden’s 1993 National Championship Team at FSU before he transferred to UCF, where he was the first running back to gain 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. The Carolina Panthers drafted Smith in the fifth round in 1996 where he earned the starting tailback position before suffering a torn ACL during a 1997 pre-season game.

Smith then played with NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire in 1998 as well as the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The following year, he was involved in the Regional Football League.

Smith has spent an abundance of time working on plans for the Kreatures and building structure in the office. He now has the opportunity build a stronger team with the Kissimmee staff and bring all of his ideas to life.

“I feel honored to have been given this opportunity, and I am looking forward to proving myself to Mr. Pewonski and the entire Kreatures staff.” Stated Smith.
