June 4, 2016 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Albany Dutchmen News Release
The Albany Dutchmen defeated the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs by a score of 3-2 Saturday night to improve their record to 3-1 on the season. With the loss, the Diamond Dawgs remain winless and now sit at 0-4.
Dutchmen right fielder Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican University) drove in the two go-ahead runs in the top of the eight inning with a double that brought in runners from first and second to give the Dutchmen their first lead of the game.
The Diamond Dawgs would get a run back in the ninth to decrease the deficit to one run, but center fielder Mike Martinez (Rutgers University) flew out with a runner on second to end the game.
Albany, now sitting at 3-1, is only a half game behind the Oneonta Outlaws who are currently undefeated at 3-0, and who defeated the Dutchmen Friday night by a score of 5-4.
Jack Grabek (Bucknell University) got the nod on the mound for the Dutchmen and shined, giving up one earned run on only a pair of hits, while striking out eight batters in six innings of work.
The pitcher who got the win, however, was Michael Maul (Trinity University) who held Mohawk Valley scoreless in the 7th. Jeff Rivera (University of Cumberlands) who did allow a few scattered hits and a run to cross, held his own as he picked up the two-inning save to secure the victory for the Dutchmen.
Albany will head back to Bob Bellizzi Field Sunday where they will host the Saugerties Stallions, who have won both of their games this season and also sit a half of a game behind the Oneonta Outlaws.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
