Clippers Race to the Wire
August 31, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
The bullpen came through again as the Columbus Clippers closed the gap in the West Division race of the International League to just a half game behind the Louisville Bats. The Clippers now lead the Buffalo Bisons by 3.5 games with seven games to go in the Wild Card battle.
Aaron Laffey, Josh Judy and Vinnie Pestano slammed the door shut throwing three shutout innings.
Wes Hodges and Josh Rodriguez supplied the pop last night with home runs and Yohan Pino won his tenth game of the season. Pino and Carlos Carrasco became the first two Clippers pitchers to win in double figures in the same season since southpaws Brad Halsey and Alex Graman turned the trick back in 2004. Pino and Carrasco are the first pair of righthanders to win ten games apiece since Brandon Knight and Brett Jodie in 2001.
The Clippers play the Indianapolis Indians in Indy tonight and tomorrow, then return home Thursday for a rare 4:35 PM start vs. the Toledo Mud Hens. After the Clippers game, the park will stay open so that the fans can stay and watch the Ohio State-Marshall football game on the giant Columbus Dispatch Scoreboard at Huntington Park. The Clippers will be raffling out Buckeye prizes throughout the game.
The food specials for Thursday include Roosters 50-cent Wings and City Barbeque Buck-A-Bone Night!
Also, Great Clips will be giving free haircuts at Huntington Park during the game. Donations will gladly be accepted for Nationwide Children's Hospital. Haircuts will be given at the lower level of the Wendy's Hamburger Balcony in right field.
Great seats are still available! The Clippers ticket office (614-462-5250) is open 9 AM-5 PM.
