Clip Carkner's Curls For Cancer
March 27, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
Barons captain Matt Carkner recently raffled off the chance to shave his head in effort to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the last year and a half, Carkner has been growing out his hair and it grew to epic lengths. Following Saturday night's 3-1 win over Syracuse, Pam and Cade Helmer, the winners of the "Clip Carkner's Curls for Cancer" raffle, shaved Matt bald on center-ice at the National City Rink located in Gund Arena.
Pam and Cade were began the work before calling on Matt's teammates to help. Several Barons got in on the action, reminiscent of a Final Four team cutting down the nets after a win.
All of the proceeds raised were donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Per club policy, financial terms of the fundraiser were not disclosed.
