Edmonton Capitals News Release

San Ramon, CA - The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Edmonton Capitals first baseman Cliff Brumbaugh has been selected as the 2010 GBL Player of the Year.

The slugger led the league in home runs with 23 - the second highest total in league history - finished second in RBI with 90, and had a phenomenal batting average of .383 for the season.

Brumbaugh, 35, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound infielder, was drafted in the 13th round of the 1995 MLB amateur draft by the Texas Rangers. He advanced through their affiliate system and made his Major League debut with Texas in 2001. Traded that season, he also played later in the year for the Colorado Rockies.

As a free agent, he was signed to play in Korea and won two straight championships with the Hyundai Unicorns, catching the attention of the Orix Blue Wave in Japan, with whom he spent the next three years.

Playing in the AAA Mexican League earlier this year, he left to join Edmonton just after the GBL season began. He went on to be an integral part of the Capitals' lineup, leading the team in home runs and RBI, and hitting for one of their top averages. His efforts were key to the Caps' success, as the team finished 13 games over .500 for the season at 51-38.

Brumbaugh was also second in the league in slugging average and among the league leaders in most offensive categories. At the all-star festivities, he put on an unforgettable hitting performance as he won the home run derby, in addition to competing for the GBL versus the Northern League.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats for the 2011 campaign, presented by Canadian Tire, are now available, and individual game tickets will be available next season for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
