
Edmonton Capitals Cliff Brumbaugh Named Golden Baseball League Player of the Year

(San Ramon, CA. September 28, 2010) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Edmonton Capitals' First Baseman Cliff Brumbaugh has been selected as the 2010 GBL Player of the Year. The slugger led the league in home runs, with the second highest total in league history, finished 2nd in RBIs, and had a batting average of .383 for the season.
Brumbaugh, 35, 6-2, 205 lbs is a corner infielder/outfielder who was drafted in the 13th round of the 1995 amateur draft by the Texas Rangers. He advanced through their farm system and made his major league debut with Texas in 2001, traded that season he also played later in the year for the Colorado Rockies. As a free agent he was signed to play in Korea and won two straight championships with the Hyundai Unicorns and caught the attention of the Orix Blue Wave in Japan where he spent the next three years. Playing in the AAA Mexican League early this year he left to join Edmonton just after the GBL season began. He went on to slug 23 home runs, 90 RBIs, and hit .383 for the year. He was also second in the league in slugging average and in the league leaders in most offensive categories. At the All-Star game versus the Northern League he won the home run derby as well. His efforts were key to the Capitals success as they team finished 13 games over .500 for the season.
