Cleveland Gladiators News Release

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Gladiators will begin the 2011 AFL season with a BYE in Week 1 before back-to-back road games with the two representatives from ArenaBowl XXIII - the Spokane Shock in Week 2 and the Tampa Bay Storm in Week 3. Cleveland will open the home schedule at Quicken Loans Arena on SATURDAY, APRIL 2 versus the CHICAGO RUSH. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 4:00 PM ET.

The Gladiators, who are now members of the AMERICAN CONFERENCE - EAST DIVISION along with the Milwaukee Iron, Pittsburgh Power and Philadelphia Soul, will face each division opponent twice. Each team will play every member of their conference once.

The Gladiators road schedule takes the team to The Sunshine State on three separate occasions - playing in Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando. Other trips include the divisional games at Pittsburgh, at Milwaukee and at Philadelphia. Games in Arizona and Kansas City round out the road portion of the schedule.

The home schedule features East Division foes Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Other opponents coming to The Q include New Orleans, Tulsa, Georgia, San Jose and Utah.

The Gladiators home schedule features five Friday games and four Saturday games. All Friday contests will kick off at 7:30 PM and all Saturday games (except the home opener) will kick off at 7:00 PM. The Gladiators have two BYE Weeks - Week 1 and Week 5. The NFL Network will once again broadcast the Friday Night Game of the Week - which will be released at a later date.

About the Schedule

- The Gladiators will play five home Friday games - the most Friday games in any of the three seasons in Cleveland.

- The Gladiators first two games are against the two teams that played in ArenaBowl XXIII last season - where Spokane defeated Tampa Bay - 69-57.

- Cleveland will make three trips to Florida to face the Jacksonville Sharks, Orlando Predators and Tampa Bay Storm.

- Cleveland will face their first East Division opponent in Week 9 when the Milwaukee Iron comes to town on May 9.

- Cleveland will host the ArenaBowl XXII Champion Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, May 21. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Soul defeated the Gladiators 70-35 in the 2008 National Conference Championship game in Philadephia, advancing to ArenaBowl XXII.

- The Gladiators will close the 2011 season with three of their final four games versus division rivals.

- The games with Kansas City, Pittsburgh and San Jose will be the first-ever meetings between the clubs, since the Gladiators relocated to Cleveland in 2008.
