
Clearwater Plates Nine Runs in First Three Innings En Route to Win

FORT MYERS, FL - The Clearwater Threshers defeated the Fort Myers Miracle, 9-3, at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday night in front of 3,161 fans.
After striking out the side in the first inning, Miracle starter Matt Tomshaw faced nine hitters in the second inning and allowed four runs. Chris Serritella drove in two runs with a bases loaded single and Roman Quinn delivered a RBI double.
The Threshers plated five more runs off Tomshaw (9-3) in the third including back-to-back solo home runs from Serritella and Quinn. Gabriel Lino also added a RBI double.
Tomshaw lasted just three innings and all nine runs give up were earned on 11 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Facing the No. 7 pick in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft Aaron Nola over five innings, the Miracle offense squeezed only one run across home in the fourth. Byron Buxton led off with a triple into right center and trotted home on a sacrifice fly by Dalton Hicks.
Nola (2-3) went five strong innings with eight strikeouts and one walk while allowing just one run on two hits.
In the sixth, Max Kepler extended his hitting streak to eight games with a two-run, two-out single to cut the Threshers lead to 9-3. The Clearwater bullpen duo of Ulises Joaquin and Lee Ridenhour prevented any more runs from scoring.
The Miracle bullpen trio of Brandon Peterson, Todd Van Steensel and D.J. Johnson combined for six scoreless frames.
Fort Myers (65-43, 24-15) travels to Joker Marchant Stadium to wrap up play with the FSL North Division in the start of a four-game series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers at 7:11 p.m. Fans can listen to the action on www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman.
