Florida Seals News Release
The Florida Seals announced today that the team parent, Orlando Professional Hockey, Inc., settled its litigation against the City of Orlando during Court Ordered Mediation hearings held on March 15.
The Seals ownership sued The City of Orlando and the now defunct World Hockey Association, Inc. for breach of the Seals license agreement to utilize the TD Waterhouse Arena. The WHA was sued for tortuous interference of a business relationship. The Seals obtained an undisclosed cash settlement, plus obtained a structured three-year restriction against the City which prohibits all professional hockey at certain levels at the TD Waterhouse for 2006-2007. The Seals had already obtained a judgment against the WHA.
David Waronker, Seals majority owner and team President, released this statement tonight from Philadelphia. "We are pleased to end the litigation and move along with what we hope will be a championship season in the SPHL. We are very happy having our home in Kissimmee. We have a great building, a thriving fan base, and a very bright future. The team's next challenge is to win a championship. We move forward."
The Seals begin the best of five final playoff series on the road in Knoxville, TN this Friday and Saturday. They return to the Silver Spurs Arena next Tuesday. If a game 4 is needed it shall be held on Wednesday. A possible game five would be held back in Knoxville, TN a week from Saturday.
