City of Arlington, Texas Honors Dallas Jackals Rugby Player Sam Golla by Proclaiming October 24, 2023 Sam Golla Day

City of Arlington Mayor Jim R. Ross has officially proclaimed October 24, 2023, as "Sam Golla Day" to honor Sam Golla's dedication to the sport, his outstanding athletic accomplishments and his commitment to improving the community.

The Mayor will host a 6:30 pm ceremony at Arlington City Hall, where guests can participate in photos after the proclamation.

Sam Golla is one of the World's most promising young rugby superstars. He has continuously demonstrated unwavering commitment, extraordinary skill, and sportsmanship. The proclamation recognizes his invaluable role in promoting rugby as a sport of excellence and bringing pride to Arlington.

The Dallas Jackals selected Arlington-born Golla from the University of California Berkeley with the number one overall pick in the 2022 Major League Rugby collegiate draft. He was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and returned to his birthplace, Arlington, Texas, to begin his professional rugby career with the Jackals in 2023.

During his first season, starting all 16 regular season games, Golla scored three tries, completed 213 tackles, was just shy of 600 meters with ball-in-hand, and was named MLR's 2023 Sportsbreaks.com Rookie of the Year. Sam also debuted for the USA Men's Eagles squad in August 2023, playing Romania, Portugal, and Georgia.

In his proclamation, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross states, "We look forward to watching Sam continue his successful MLR career in Arlington for years to come."

About the honor, Sam stated, "I've had such a great experience being a part of the Dallas Jackals, and having Mayor Ross dedicate this day to me is very special. I'm so glad that I returned to Arlington, and I look forward to doing even greater things with this team and my career."

Jackals COO Rodd Newhouse added, "Sam has been a leader on and off the field. His work ethic is unmatched, and his willingness to support his community is important to him as evidenced in the school appearances and community programs he has helped build."
