Cincinnati Kings News Release
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Kings played to a draw against the second-place Charlotte Eagles, 3-3, in the highest scoring home game of the season. The Kings now stand at 3-3-3 and are in fourth place in the USL Second Division.
The Eagles got on the board first, with a goal in the 15th minute by Miami University's Dustin Swinehart, with the assist from Aaron Faro. The Kings tied the game up in the 40th minute on a goal by Josh Barton, assisted by Jeff Hughes off a corner kick. Just before the end of the first half, the Eagles went ahead, 2-1, when Adam Ruud scored, with an assist from Swinehart.
In the second half, the Kings showed some offensive spark immediately, as Nowaf Jaman evened the score at 2-2 just two minutes into the half, with the assist by Wes Schulte. Charlotte retook the lead in the 72nd minute on an unassisted goal by Ross Spencer, then in extra time just before the final whistle, Mike McGinlay took a pass from Jon Pickup, headed it to himself, then floated it over the head of Charlotte goalkeeper Chris McClellan for the tying score.
"We have to find what makes us tick in the last 10 minutes, and spread it over the first 80," said Coach Pickup. "We were too slow on the attack early, but at halftime we asked our guys for more intensity, and we created more chances."
The Kings had 21 shots on goal, 13 in the second half, to the Eagles' 13. Charlotte goalie McClellan was credited with 10 saves, and the Kings' Jordan James had four saves.
Charlotte now is 4-2-4 in the United Soccer Leagues' Second Division. Charlotte defeated the Kings, 1-0, in the first game of the season for both teams.
The Kings will face the Wilmington Hammerheads next Saturday, June 24, 7 p.m. at Xavier University Soccer Complex.
