May 12, 2007 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Cincinnati Kings News Release
WILDER, Ky -- Two goals within three minutes of each other by Cleveland forward Nigel Codrington were enough to send the Cincinnati Kings to defeat, 2-1, in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action Saturday night at the Town and Country Sports Complex.
The Kings had the lead at the half, thanks to a goal in the 42nd minute from Kwame Sarkodie, with an assist from Bret Jones. But the City Stars came back in the second half, first on an unassisted goal by Codrington in the 69th minute, then the second by Codrington in the 72nd minute with the assist from Mark Schulte.
The Kings had been the aggressors on offense for most of this game, with a 4-1 edge on corner kicks and a 6-5 advantage on shots on goal in the first half. After the two Codrington scores the Kings were unable to get much going in goal, although they ended the game with an 11-3 corner kick advantage over the City Stars.
Cleveland had 14 shots on goal to the Kings' 12, and both side had four saves in goal.
The loss drops the Kings season record to 1-3-1, while the win keeps the City Stars undefeated at 3-0 in their inaugural season in the USL Second Division. The Kings lost to Cleveland by the same 2-1 score at home last month.
The Kings' next game is at home at Town and Country on Friday, May 18th at 7:30 p.m. as the New Hampshire Phantoms come to town.
