Cincinnati Kings News Release

CINCINNATI (January 10, 2005) – The Cincinnati Kings, Cincinnati’s new professional soccer team, will open their inaugural season with a home opener on April 16 versus the Harrisburg City Islanders. The match will start at 7:30 p.m. at Xavier University.

The Kings will play a 20-game regular-season schedule with 10 matches at home and 10 on the road. Competing in the USLÂ’s Second Division, the Kings will face-off with the Islanders and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds four times each. They will play every other team in the Second Division twice. The Kings will wrap up the regular season August 13 at home against the Northern Virginia Royals.

“We’re excited to start our first year at home against the Islanders,” said Kings General Manager JT Roberts. “We anticipate big things from our team and expect an exciting and fun atmosphere for our home matches.”

The USL Second Division will feature a single-table alignment in 2005, with nine teams battling for four playoff spots. A two-leg, aggregate score system will be utilized for the semifinals, which will be followed by a single-game championship.

All of the Kings home matches will be played at Xavier University and will begin at 7:30 p.m. The tailgate area will open two hours prior to the start of the match and the stadium gates will open one hour before the start of the match.
