Cincinnati Kings News Release
CINCINNATI â The Cincinnati Kings have shaken up their roster with the addition of two players who played local college soccer and the release of midfielder Ruben Lagunas. Goalkeeper Nate Madden from Northern Kentucky University and midfielder John Liersemann of the University of Cincinnati have signed with the Kings.
"Nate was brought in to cover injuries and has continued to impress with every training session," said Kings head coach Jon Pickup. "Liersemann seems very knowledgeable of the game and will add a new dimension to our team."
Madden, 22, just finished his eligibility at Northern Kentucky University. The Centerville, Ohio native was the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2004 after posting 11 shutouts and a 0.53 goals against average. Madden finished his collegiate career as the NKU career leader in goals against average, shutouts, and fewest goals allowed.
Liersemann, 22, joins the Kings after having played earlier this season for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. With the Riverhounds, Liersemann appeared in three games totaling 144 minutes. Liersemann was a C-USA All-Conference selection at the University of Cincinnati
Lagunas, 22, had appeared in five games for the Kings totaling 99 minutes of action.
The Kings are currently 3-2-2 in the USL Second Division and are one of four teams in their division to qualify for the US Open Cup. The Kings play the Wilmington Hammerheads at home this Friday night and then travel to Harrisburg to take on the City Islanders on Saturday.
