August 11, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC - Charleston Battery midfielder Ted Chronopoulos has been named to the A-League Team of the Week following his strong display and tieing goal on Sunday versus the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Chronopoulos struck in the 81st minute as the Battery came from behind to tie the three-time A-League champions. The goal was Chronopoulos' third on the season; he also scored the lone Battery goal in Friday night's 2-1 OT loss to the Richmond Kickers.
Chronopoulos has been plagued by injury for much of the 2004 season and has started just nine games. In 2003 he earned A-League All Second Team honors, the Charleston Battery Newcomer of the Year, and Offensive Player of the Year awards, while leading the Battery in minutes played (2,701) and finishing second in scoring (9 goals, 3 assists - 21 points). Chronopoulos scored the opening goal in Charleston's 3-0 A-League Championship shutout over the Minnesota Thunder.
A Loma Linda, CA native, in 1996 Chronopoulos was selected by the New England Revolution in the fifth round (45th overall) of MLS's inaugural draft. With New England, he played in 139 games scoring 16 goals and adding 14 assists. After seven seasons, he was traded to the Metrostars where he played in 18 games and contributed 4 assists. His MLS career highlights included five playoff appearances, one MLS Player of the Week award (2000) and two appearances in the All-Star game (1997, 2000).
