However striker David Castellanos put the home side in the lead to stay at 77'. The game was the first loss for goalkeeper Alex Marques in over a month, ending his seven-game undefeated streak.

Vancouver's record falls to 12-7-4 for 40 points, as the Caps remain in second place in the West, six back of the Portland Timbers, with both teams having five games remaining. The Thunder move to 11-8-3 for 36 points, as they leapfrog Seattle to go into third place in the West, four points behind Vancouver with a game in hand.

The Whitecaps conclude their road-trip Thursday away to the Milwaukee Wave United. They return to face the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, August 15, in a special 1:00pm afternoon game at Swangard Stadium.

Game Notes

Jason Jordan was in good form in the game. In addition to doing all the work on Nash's goal, Jordan came close to setting up an early goal at 5' as his cut-back was blasted just wide by John Sulentic from the top of the box. Then at 48' he stole the ball from Godfrey Tenoff, outpaced the Minnesota defence down the left, and forced Joe Warren into a diving save to stop his low shot. Minnesota had the better of the second half, with a 9-4 edge in shots, making the final shot count 12-12. After scoring Vancouver's goal in the final seconds of the first half, Martin Nash was taken out of the game at half-time, replaced by Davide Xausa.

Minnesota goalkeeper Joe Warren was forced to make 8 saves compared to Alex Marques' 3.

Vancouver had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
