Hartford Colonials News Release

Chris Palmer, a former high school player and coach in Connecticut and recently the New York Giants quarterbacks coach, has been named Head Coach and General manager of the United Football League Hartford team.

"We are pleased to have continued the UFL tradition of hiring prominent and successful coaches into key positions within our teams," said UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue. "Coach Palmer has won at the pinnacle of the professional game and at college level and inherits a team that we are confident he will turn into a winning force on the field through astute player selection and quality coaching."

A native of Brewster, NY, Palmer has strong ties to Connecticut. He played football at Immaculate High School in Danbury and was a quarterback at Southern Connecticut State University from 1968 to 1971. He coached at the University of Connecticut and prior to entering the NFL enjoyed a successful spell coaching at the University of New Haven from 1986-87, posting consecutive 8-2 records.

Palmer brings 38 years of coaching experience to the UFL and most recently tutored Eli Manning at the New York Giants from 2007 to 2009, winning a Super Bowl XLII ring when the Giants defeated the New England Patriots 17-14 in Glendale, Arizona.

"The opportunity to return to the role of head coach and also assume the responsibilities of general manager within a young league that preaches quality football and values the local community really excites me," said Palmer.

"Connecticut has provided me with several firsts in my football career - my first opportunity to play at high school and in college, my first coaching position and first head coaching job. Now I am pleased to combine being a general manager and head coach for the first time, here in Hartford."

Palmer was the Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1999 to 2000, taking on the challenge of an expansion team, and posted a 5-27 record in two seasons.
