Chris Evert Exhibition and Fan Reception at July 15 Kastles Match
June 6, 2011 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Washington Kastles News Release
The Kastles are pleased to announce that one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Chris Evert, will compete in a halftime exhibition and host a meet-and-greet with fans at the match between Washington and the St. Louis Aces on Friday, July 15th. The beloved American is making a special appearance in DC after Anna Kournikova withdrew from her WTT playing commitment. The Russian was originally scheduled to play for St. Louis.
Evert, an 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, will join WTT founder and fellow Hall-of-Famer Billie Jean King on what promises to be an unforgettable night with two of the most famous athletes in history at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf.
"It's great to be involved with World TeamTennis again," said Evert, who is making a rare public appearance in the Mid-Atlantic region. "The team format is a terrific way to showcase tennis, especially to kids. I always enjoyed playing WTT and being part of a team and the community."
Evert dominated women's tennis for the better part of two decades. The American icon won 90 percent of her matches during a glorious career that included 34 straight Grand Slam semifinals, 125 consecutive wins on clay and 154 singles titles overall.
Washington swept St. Louis in 2010, so the Aces will have revenge on their minds when they visit DC on July 15th. St. Louis is one of the leading contenders for the 2011 King Trophy, with a roster led by former world No. 1 doubles player Liezel Huber and Australian Open doubles semifinalist Jean-Julien Rojer. Tickets to see Chrissie and the Kastles on July 15th at 7 pm start at just $30 and are available now on Ticketmaster.com i861M=].
