Chomper to participate in National Kids Day

Chomper, the loveable mascot of the Jacksonville Barracudas, is set to join the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and other youth-serving and community groups to celebrate National Kids Day this Sunday, August 1st at Metropolitan Park.

National Kids Day, a growing grassroots movement to honor America's children is an emerging new national day observed on the first Sunday of each August, with national, local and personal celebrations taking place across the country. The goal of the day is to honor, celebrate and acknowledge kids through the gift of meaningful time.

All families in the United States, regardless of their economic status, ethnic or cultural background or geographic location experience the pressures of contemporary life. These pressures have directly affected the amount of meaningful time they are able to devote to their children.

Research shows that America's children want to spend more "meaningful time" with the adults in their lives. National Kids Day provides every adult with the opportunity to take a break, celebrate and renew their commitment to the nation's children. Meaningful interaction with adults helps kids develop stronger self-esteem, identity and a sense of belonging. This enhances their opportunity to become productive, responsible citizens.

"National KidsDay will help give America another opportunity to let children know they are special and loved, whether they are our own children, our grandchildren or any child," said KidsPeace President & CEO C.T. O'Donnell II. "In an often confusing and ever-more complicated world, this knowledge helps give kids peace."

National KidsDay is a free event where Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida and other youth-serving agencies and community groups will come together to celebrate National Kids Day with games, food, and fun activities.
