CHL Names Final Oakley Player & Goaltender of the Week

Rio Grande Valley forward Joe Guenther and Oklahoma City netminder Boyd Ballard have been named the final two recipients of the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week awards. Guenther recorded five goals and three assists in three contests to earn Oakley CHL Player of the Week honors, while Ballard recorded two wins and his second shutout of the season to claim Oakley Goaltender of the Week recognition.
Guenther recorded multiple points in each of the Killer Bees final three games of the season, helping his club post a 2-1-0 record. He had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss at Corpus Christi March 17th, then scored and added two assists in a 9-3 home ice win over Austin the following night. Guenther's season came to an end Saturday night in memorable fashion, scoring his second hat-trick of the year in a 5-3 home win over San Angelo. With his outstanding final week, Guenther ends the season as the Killer Bees leader in goals (26), power play goals (9) and game winning goals (6).
Ballard was outstanding for Oklahoma City in winning his final two games of the season. With the Blazers fighting for a playoff position March 15th in Bossier-Shreveport, Ballard made 26 saves in a 3-0 win to earn his second shutout of the season. Saturday evening in Topeka, Ballard turned in another fine performance, making 33 saves in a 3-2 shootout win. Ballard's two quality outings helped him move into the CHL's top ten final rankings in both goals against average (10th, 2.65) and save percentage (T 6th, .917).
