Ching, Clark called up to U.S. national team for qualifiers

HOUSTON, TX (August 28, 2008) -- Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching and midfielder Ricardo Clark have both been called up to the United States national team for their semifinal round World Cup qualifying matches against Cuba on September 6 and Trinidad & Tobago on September 10, it was announced today.

The United States will play at Cuba on Saturday, September 6, in the second of six matches in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying. The United States will then host Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday, September 10, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. The U.S. beat Guatemala 1-0 in their semifinal opener on August 20, with Ching playing the full 90 minutes.

Ching has 28 caps and seven goals for the U.S. national team all-time, while Clark has made 14 appearances and scored once.

Ching has scored nine goals in his last 12 MLS games, and his nine goals are tied for fifth in Major League Soccer this season. Clark has played every minute when eligible for the Dynamo this year in MLS and international competition. Both players will join the United States team after playing in the Dynamo's August 31 match against Chicago and are expected to miss the Dynamo's September 7 game against the Kansas City Wizards.
