Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker named Hanns-G \'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for July

NEW YORK, August 28, 2008 - After leading all rookies with more than 20 points per game, Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker was named the Hanns-G 'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for July. She previously won the inaugural award for the month of May.

In 12 games, the 6'4" forward topped all rookies in scoring (20.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg), led the league in both double-doubles (8) and rebounds and ranked third in scoring. In an 82-74 win over the Houston Comets on July 9, Parker poured in a career-high 40 points and tied a career-best 16 rebounds. She scored 20 or more points six times and scored in double-digits in all games played during the month of July.

The first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft has lived up to the extraordinary expectations that accompanied her arrival in the WNBA. For the season, the Naperville, IL product tops the charts for rookies in scoring (18.8 ppg), rebounds (9.4 rpg) and double-doubles (14). Parker hasn't just been one of the league's most impressive rookies, she has also held her own against competition throughout the league. She also leads the entire WNBA in rebounds and ranks in the top 5 in points per game. The Sparks are currently 15-12 and sit in third place in the Western Conference.

Below are the highlights of Parker's outstanding month:

- July 6 vs. Phoenix: 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-80 win.

- July 9 vs. Houston: Career-high 40 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks in an 82-74 win.

- July 17 at Phoenix: 23 points and 13 rebounds in a 99-92 loss.

- July 27 at Minnesota: 23 points on 10-17 shooting and 10 rebounds in a 92-84 win.
