Chill names assistant coaches

Colorado Chill News Release
Colorado Chill Head Coach Kelly Packard has named her assistant coaches for the 2005 basketball season. Tuesday, Packard announced that she invited former colleague Karen Booker to assist her with the upcoming season.
Booker might be a familiar name to Northern Colorado fans as she was an assistant coach under Greg Williams at Colorado State University for one season (97-98). That is where Booker and Packard crossed paths.
"Karen is a great addition," said Packard. "She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion for coaching. I am blessed that the details of her accepting this position were able to be worked out."
Booker completed her stellar college career at Vanderbilt in 1987 and has since gone on to a variety of playing and coaching experiences. Her playing career included traveling overseas to such places as Isreal and Japan and playing in the WNBA with the Utah Starzz and Houston Comets. Besides coaching at CSU, Booker's resume includes a volunteer coaching position with Greg Williams in 2002 with the WNBA Detroit Shock.
"Karen's playing and coaching experience is a really good fit for the National Women's Basketball League," said Chill General Manager Dave King. "She has had the same experience that many of our players have of the overseas playing situation versus staying in the states to gain visibility. Plus she has the knowledge and understanding of the level of play at the WNBA."
Also joining the coaching staff for the second year as an assistant coach will be Tom White. White has an extensive career with Triple Crown Sports, the Fort Collins company that owns the Chill, and has spent eleven years as a coach and six years as an Athletic Director in the Loveland school system. He is currently a teacher at Berthoud High School. Due to his full-time teaching situation, White will serve in a home game courtside coaching capacity this season.
On the court, the Chill will feature United States Gold Medal Olympian Ruth Riley, two-time WNBA All-Star Becky Hammon, and 2004 Chill MVP Katie Cronin. For more information on the Chill, contact Kim Grubbs at 970-223-6644 ext 167.
