Chill Adds Local Talent to Roster and Staff
September 20, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - The St. Charles Chill and General Manager/Head Coach Jamie Rivers are excited to announce the signing of two locally grown players in forward Sean Muncy and goalie Robert Moss as well as local talent and new Assistant Coach J.P. Beilsten. The Central Hockey League (CHL) team now has 10 players signed for their inaugural season.
Beilsten played two seasons for the Jr. Blues from 2000-2002 before turning pro and playing most of his career (100 of 102 games) with the Missouri River Otters from 2002-2006. Beilsten has also represented the United States at the World Championships for over 10 years as a world-class inline player and has made a name for himself in the St. Louis area at various levels of coaching. Among his accomplishments is helping the Jr. Blues to a National Championship as an assistant coach before taking over for long-time head coach Jack Behan three seasons ago, continuing the success of that program by posting a record of 117-32-7-14 in that span.
"He should be coaching professional hockey", said Jamie Rivers when asked why he tabbed Beilsten as his assistant. "The job he did with the Jr. Blues was outstanding, and you won't find somebody who works harder than J.P."
Muncy played his high school hockey for Marquette before signing to play junior hockey and eventually ending up playing in the Ivy League for Brown University. He has played for four teams in the CHL registering 30 goals and 55 assists in 127 games played before signing and playing the last two seasons for ESV Buchloe (Germany).
"Being from suburban St. Louis (Chesterfield) and seeing the quality of players Coach Rivers has been signing, it was a no-brainer to sign with the Chill", said Muncy when reached via twitter (@seanmuncy). "I consider it an honor to play for my hometown team and look forward to a successful season."
The Chill got better between the pipes as well with another local talent in Robert Moss, a Chesterfield native as well who played his high school hockey at Marquette. Moss missed teaming up with Muncy by one season for the Mustangs before heading to St. Lawrence University to play for one of the all-time greats in Joe Marsh. Moss broke into professional hockey in a big way last season with the Augusta RiverHawks in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) posting a league-best 2.93 GAA with a 16-16-2 record to go along with a .913 save percentage.
"This guy (Moss) is a leader, on and off the ice," says Rivers about his new netminder. "He has great potential and we look forward to him continuing to improve on what was a fantastic season last year in Augusta."
Beilsten, Muncy, and Moss join a team already filled with local talent in Kyle Kraemer (St. Louis), Jordan Fox (Kirkwood), Kyle O'Kane (St. Louis), Tony DeHart (Ballwin), and Kevin McFarland (St. Louis).
The Chill will begin their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League on October 19th at the Family Arena with a FREE preseason game October 11th. Season tickets are currently on sale now and start at under $10 per game (33 home games).
