Chiefs rally past Americans

Mitch Wahl scored two of the three Chiefs goals in the third period to lead Spokane to a 5-2 win over the Tri- City Americans on Friday night. Tri-City jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first but Spokane scored five unanswered to give them their fifth win of the year against the Americans, four of them in Spokane. The Chiefs and Americans will finish their 12 game season series on Saturday, March 17th in Kennewick in a game that will be broadcast live on Comcast channel 12.

T.J Fast scored at 5:20 of the first and assisted on Tri- City's second goal scored by Tanner Gillies.

The Chiefs started their comeback at 11:48 when Sean Zimmerman scored his second goal of the year on the powerplay. The 19-year-old snapped home a wrister from the slot after Michael Grabner found him driving to the net. Mitch Wahl also had an assist.

Spokane evened the score when Chris Bruton tipped in a J.P. Szaszkiewicz pass for his ninth of the season.

In the third, Wahl's streak down the right wing resulted in his 14th of the season when he picked the corner over Carey Price's stick side shoulder for the eventual game winning goal. Drayson Bowman and Grabner had the assists.

David Rutherford issued the insurance when he deked Price for his 28th of the year at 13:28 and Wahl finished the scoring at 18:36 with an empty netter.

Kevin Armstrong stopped 26 shots, including nine in the third period, for his 23rd win of the year. The Chiefs were 3-3 on the penalty kill and 1-8 on the power play.

Spokane will finish the home portion of the regular season on Saturday night when they host the Kootenay Ice at 7:00. The game will be presented by Coca-Cola. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a team poster courtesy of XO COmmunciations.
