Chiefs Announce First Annual Memorial Day 4 Mile Run

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs together with Central Illinois Proud Family of Marines and the Illinois Valley Striders are organizing the first annual "Operation Santa Memorial Day 4 Mile Run/1 Mile Walk" to raise funds for Operation Santa. A Peoria-based charity project, Operation Santa sent more than 14,000 stockings to deployed members of the service in the last holiday season, and it is an event hosted annually by Central Illinois Proud Family of Marines.

The race will take place on Monday, May 26 to cap Memorial Day weekend. The Chiefs will host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 2 pm, with Military Appreciation Day festivities beginning at 1 pm prior to the game. Registration for the race opens at 7 am, with the race beginning at 9 am. Participants will begin on Oak Street in front of O'Brien Field and will finish near first base on the diamond. Chip timing will be used to mark the runners.

To register, forms can be downloaded from the Peoria Chiefs website, www.peoriachiefs.com, or they can be picked up at O'Brien Field, Running Central, and other locations throughout the Peoria area. Pre-registration fees are $20, and registering on the day of the race will require a $23 fee. These prices include the opportunity to participate in the race as well as one ticket to the Memorial Day game. Not only do runners get to enjoy the game following the race, but live entertainment, food, beer, and a t-shirt will also be included with registration. Packets can be picked up at O'Brien Field on Wednesday May 21 from Noon-6 pm or on the day of the race.

Awards for the 4 mile run will be given to the top male and female overall finishers, along with the top three males and females per division. The prizes for the top male and female finishers will be an autographed Ryne Sandberg bat a photo taken with the Chiefs Manager. The prizes for the division winners will be baseballs autographed by Chiefs players. The divisions are divided as follows:

Ages 14 and under

15 to 19 years 20 to 24 years 25 to 29 years

30 to 34 years 35 to 39 years 40 to 44 years

45 to 49 years 50 to 54 years 55 to 59 years

60 to 64 years Ages 65 and older

At the Memorial Day game on May 26, the Chiefs will be taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. This will also be Military Appreciation Day, in which all active members of the military will be allowed in for free with their ID cards.

Ticket Information

Individual, Group and Season ticket packages for the 2008 season are currently on sale. Ticket packages include 70-game package, 35-game package, 17-game package, and a Build Your Own package (minimum 12 games). Group tickets are also on sale for all O'Brien Field party areas and the seating bowl for all 70 home games.
