BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending May 18, 2008, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Chicago Machine goalkeeper Mike Gabel has earned the Goalkeeper of the Week award while Denver Outlaws face-off specialist Geoff Snider was honored as the League's Defensive Player of the Week.

Gabel was named as the Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time in his MLL career after leading the Machine to a 10-9 victory over San Francisco on Sunday afternoon. He made 19 saves, including 10 in the first half, to lead the Machine to the first season-opening victory in the team's three-year history. With 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter, he made a game-saving stop to protect the Machine's one-goal lead.

Snider helped the Denver Outlaws to a season-opening 22-12 victory over the Los Angeles Riptide on Saturday evening by winning 19 of 36 face-offs in addition to recording six ground balls. It is the second career Defensive Player of the Week award in Snider's career.

In addition, Rochester Rattlers attackman Jeff Zywicki has been named as the first Offensive Player of the Week for the 2008 season. Zywicki scored a game-high six goals and also added an assist to lead the Rochester Rattlers to a come-from-behind 16-10 victory over the Long Island Lizards on Saturday evening. Trailing by 10-9, the Rattlers put together a seven-goal run to end the game. Zywicki was instrumental during the run by scoring three times.

It is the first time that Zywicki has been named as the Offensive Player of the Week in his career.
