Chicago Storm Signs Defender Denny Clanton

Chicago (Thursday, March 25, 2005) – The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that they have signed defender Denny Clanton to a contract for the remainder of the season. Per league policy, details of the contract were not disclosed. Clanton will be available for the Storm's match on Friday, March 25 at the St. Louis Steamers at 7:35 p.m. CT at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, MO. The game will be broadcast live via internet radio on www.chicagostorm.net.

"We are happy to bring Denny to the Storm," said Storm Head Coach and GM Frank Klopas. "He is a tough, young and talented defender with experience and we have defensive needs that have to be addressed. He is a very athletic player and a good soccer player and we are happy to add him to our team."

Clanton joins the Storm after spending 2004 with the Chicago Fire. The 22-year-old Clanton played an even 500 minutes during his 10 appearances in MLS play for the Fire during his rookie season, which included six nods in the Fire's starting eleven. Clanton, a native of west suburban Aurora and product of Waubonsie Valley H.S., also registered 131 minutes in two games (one start) for the Fire on the team's march to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final last season. Alongside goalkeeper Matt Pickens, the former University of Dayton player made history as one of the first players from the Premier Development League's (PDL) Chicago Fire Premier (formerly Chicago Fire Reserves) to make the senior club in 2004 after being selected by Chicago in the fourth round (38th overall) of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft.

"I am very excited to join the Storm and continue my career in Chicago," said Clanton. "This is a good team with a great chance at making the playoffs. I have known Frank Klopas and I am looking forward to playing for him."

Clanton was a four-year starter at the University of Dayton, where started all 77 of his contests and registered 10 points on a pair of goals and six assists. He earned several accolades during his senior season in 2003, including First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and the All-Ohio Player of the Year award, in addition to finishing as the runner-up in the A-10 Defender of the Year voting. The 6', 170 lbs. defender was a member of the Chicago Fire Reserves of the USL Premier Development League (PDL) and spent three seasons (2001-2003) with the club. With the CFR he was named to the 2003 All-PDL Team and helped the squad to the PDL Championship Game. In 2002, he helped the squad capture the PDL Central Conference Championship and he was also named the 2002 PDL Defender of the Year.

Clanton will wear jersey number 18 for the Storm.
