Chicago Storm Rolls Past Kansas City 7-4

Chicago – The Chicago Storm defeated the Kansas City Comets 7-3 tonight at the UIC Pavilioin in front of a season-high crowd of 4,711. The "Yellow and Black" improved to 15-14 in the Major Indoor Soccer League to remain in fourth-place and clinching to the last playoff spot. Storm midfielder Novi registered a goal and three assists in the contest, including an assist on the game-winning goal by Andy Rosenband. The Storm will now board a bus tonight to travel to Cleveland, OH for a contest with the Force at 2:05 p.m. CT. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.

"The team played very well tonight," said Storm Head Coach and GM Frank Klopas. "We knew Kansas City would come out strong and this was an important game for both teams. The crowd was very supportive and the team responded. We did well to keep pressure on K.C. and take advantage of our opportunities. Now we have to prepare for Cleveland tomorrow and this will be a very tough game."

After both teams managed to hold each other scoreless in the first quarter, Storm forward Novi managed to tally the first goal of the game at the 9:00 of the second quarter. The Indian Head Park, IL resident gathered a loose ball that Comets goalkeeper Chris Damico was unsuccessful in clearing and rifled a shot from the far right wing, giving the Storm a 1-0 lead. The "Yellow and Black" registered their second goal of the quarter on a restart goal at the 10:09 mark after Nino DaSilva passed off to Mark Ughy down in the left corner. Ughy fired a shot that deflected off Matthew Stewart's knee past Damico. Midfielder Andy Guastaferro extended the Storm's lead to 3-0 after Novi fired a shot off the boards right to Gaustaferro who headed in his eighth goal of the season from the middle of the box. Kansas City finally got on the scoreboard at the 5:38 mark of the third quarter after Armando Valdivia connected with Ibrahim Kante, who fired a shot from just inside the box past Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman, making the score 3-1.

The Storm came right back and scored two goals, starting with a restart goal at the 10:37 mark of the third stanza. DaSilva passed off to Ughy along the left side. He them laid off a pass to Stewart down low against the boards and Stewart passed the ball right back to Ughy as he completed his run into the box. The Hungarian forward quickly one-timed a shot into the back of the net to record his 25th goal of the season. The "Yellow and Black" extended their lead to 5-1 after Novi made a long pass to Andy Rosenband who gathered the pass and raced up the right side of the field. The Hammond, IN native shook off a defender and chipped in a shot past Damico for his 11th goal of the season.

The "Yellow and Black" held off the Comets as Sandre Naumoski, gave the Storm a 6-2 lead. Kansas City's Goran Hunjak scored to make it 6-3, but Storm forward Byron Alvarez scored an empty net goal to seal the game. The Storm's attendance tonight is not only a season-high, but an indoor soccer record at the UIC Pavilion as it outdistanced all of the Chicago Power's attendance numbers from the 1996 season.

The Storm will return to Chicago on Saturday, March 19 to face the Cleveland Force at 7:00 p.m. CT at the UIC Pavilion. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet and can also be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net in English and on Univision Radio WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.
