Chicago Storm News Release

Baltimore, Md. (Sunday, November 14, 2004) – The Chicago Storm defeated the Philadelphia KiXX 7-4 today at the Wachovia Spectrum to improve to 4-2 on the season and move to within half a game of the Central Division leading Milwaukee Wave (4-1). Midfielder Novi Marojevic led the Storm with two goals and one assist in the contest to help the Storm give the KiXX (4-1) their first loss of the season. The Storm swept the east coast swing weekend after taking a 3-1 decision from the two-time MISL champion Baltimore Blast on Saturday and downing the 2001-02 champion Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on tape delay on Comcast SportsNet on Thursday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. CT.

"I am very proud of our team," said Storm Head Coach Frank Klopas. "They fought hard today and really challenged themselves. Philadelphia is a very good team and we know they are capable of scoring a lot of goals. Danny (Waltman) did another good job in goal and Novi took advantage of his opportunities. Overall, this was a very good weekend and we will move forward and prepare for Milwaukee on November 26."

Storm defender Costea Decu tallied the game-winning goal at 4:56 of the third quarter. Forward Jorge Valle was fouled and the referee awarded a freekick to the "Yellow and Black." Decu stepped up and hit a shot that went past the wall and KiXX goalkeeper Stuart Dobson to put the Storm ahead 5-3.

Marojevic opened the scoring for the Storm 4:51 into the game when defender Lazo Alavanja found him across the field on the right wing. The Serbian-born midfielder one-timed a shot that went past Dobson into the top left corner to give the Storm the 1-0 advantage.

The KiXX countered throughout the game, but the Storm was able to hold off the only remaining undefeated team in the MISL. Chicago received goals from midfielder Leo Pernia, Andy Guastaferro, Jorge Valle and Matthew Stewart. Stewar's tally extends his goal-scoring streak to four games as forward Byron Alvarez's club record of five games comes to an end.

Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman made 11 saves to preserve the win, which totaled 29 saves on 34 shots over the weekend.

The Storm will return to the UIC Pavilion on Friday, November 26 to face the Milwaukee Wave at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet and can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.
