Chicago Storm News Release

Cleveland, Ohio – The Chicago Storm lost to the Cleveland Force 7-5 today at the Convocation Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Storm midfielder Matthew Stewart's two goals were not enough as Chicago squandered a 5-1 halftime lead to fall to 2-2 in the Central Division. The Force scored seven unanswered goals as the lead disappeared throughout the second half.

"We let one get away today," said Storm Head Coach Frank Klopas. "We controlled the game for three quarters and Cleveland was able to capitalize on our mistakes. This is a long season and it will have highs and lows. We need to do things better and we will continue to improve."

The Storm was held scoreless for the last 22:57 of the contest. Storm midfielder Novi Marojevic committed a foul just outside of the yellow line in Chicago's half of the field. Cleveland defender John Ball stepped up and blasted a freekick into the top right corner of the net past a diving Danny Waltman to give the Force a 6-5 lead at 4:47 of the fourth quarter.

The Storm opened the game with a goal at 6:24 when midfielder Andy Rosenband collected a pass up the right wing and banged a pass off the boards past Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin. The ball bounced in front of the open net and Storm defender Gaston Pernia got to it before the Cleveland defense and knocked it in to give the Storm a 1-0 lead and Pernia's first of the season.

Stewart's second goal of the game gave the Storm a 4-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Force was able to get one back before halftime when Chris Handsor deflected a shot from Josh Timbers in front of the net.

Storm forward Byron Alvarez tallied his fourth of the season at 7:16 of the second quarter on an assist by Marojevic. The Mexican forward has now scored in all four of the Storm's contests.

The Storm will return to the UIC Pavilion on Thursday, November 26 to face the Milwaukee Wave at 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet and can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net. Next week, the Storm will travel to Baltimore for a date with the defending champion Blast at 6:35 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 13. The team will then travel to Philadelphia to battle the KiXX on Sunday, November 14 at 12:05 p.m. CT. Both games can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.
