Chicago Slaughter Will Face Green Bay Blizzard In First Round Of Playoffs

Slaughter Heads Back to Green Bay Saturday For Fourth Meeting Between These Two Fierce Rivals

HOFFMAN ESTATES - The Chicago Slaughter (6-8), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, will face Central North Division Champions and fierce rivals the Green Bay Blizzard (10-4) on the road Saturday night in the first round of the Indoor Football League (IFL) United Conference playoff competition. Post season play begins this weekend and will consists of 16 teams - the top team from each of the 6 Divisions plus 5 Wild Cards in each conference, competing in 4 rounds to determine the United Bowl Champion. During the first round, teams ranked 1-4 will host teams ranked 5-8 in each conference based on geographic proximity. Following the outcome, teams will be re-ranked 1-4 based on regular season records in each conference and the 1st seed will host the 4th seed, while the 2nd seed will host the 3rd seed in each conference for Conference Semi-Finals. Conference Finals will be played the following weekend leading to the League Championship game to crown the 2010 IFL United Bowl Champion.

The IFL has released the following schedule for first round match-ups:

United Conference

(1) Richmond vs. (6) Rochester, Monday June 28, 7:00 PM

(2) Sioux Falls vs. (5) Omaha, Saturday June 26, 7:05 PM

(3) Green Bay vs. (8) Chicago, Saturday June 26, 7:05 PM

(4) Wichita vs. (7) Bloomington, Saturday June 26, 7:05 PM

Intense Conference (Home teams listed in Bold)

(1) Billings vs. (6) Tri-Cities, TBD (Tornado damage to arena)

(2) Amarillo vs. (7) West Texas, Monday June 28, 7:00 PM

(3) Arkansas vs. (8) Corpus Christi, Saturday June 26, 7:05 PM

(4) San Angelo vs. (5) Fairbanks, Monday June 28, 7:05 PM

Last season, the Chicago Slaughter, led by head coach and 1985 Super Bowl Chicago Bears star, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, went an unprecedented 14-0 capturing the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Championship trophy. This is the franchise's first year competing in the IFL.

"We are excited to make the playoffs in our first season of competition in the IFL," said Alan Perkins, Chicago Slaughter GM. "We believe we've got a good shot at making a strong run in the postseason. It's all about when you get hot. I've said it before, all you need is an invitation to the playoffs."

The Blizzard suffered two losses to the Slaughter earlier this season and secured their first win over Chicago when the teams met for the third and final time during regular season play this past weekend. This Saturday will be the fourth meeting of these two fierce divisional rivals and the Slaughter is looking to redeem themselves from last weekend's only loss. Football fans are well aware of the Packers/Bears rivalry, which is the longest running one in the NFL. This weekend's match-up during the first round of post-season play will continue to build on the contentious rivalry between these two football powerhouse cities.

"Chicago facing Green Bay in the first round of the playoffs...it doesn't get any better than this, folks," said Slaughter Head Coach Steve McMichael. "We are a wildcard team right now in more ways than one. All but one of our losses this season came in the last minute of the game. We are a dangerous team - a team no one wants to face in the first round."

Kickoff for this weekend's road game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 26th, at the Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI.
